Genesis (Bere'shiyth) 50
1 Yoseph (Joseph) threw himself on his father’s face, wept over him, and kissed him. 2 Then Yoseph ordered his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Yisra'el (Israel). 3 They took forty days to complete this, as that was the standard time for embalming. The Mitsriym (Egyptians) mourned for him for seventy days. 4 When the days of mourning had passed, Yoseph spoke to Pharaoh’s household. He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, please speak to Pharaoh for me. Tell him: 5 'My father made me swear an oath, saying, "Look, I am about to die. Yourself must bury me in the grave I dug for myself in the land of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Kena'an" title="Means 'lowland' or 'merchant.' Now, please let me go up and bury my father, and then I will return.'" 6 Pharaoh replied, "Go up and bury yourself father, just as he made yourself swear." 7 So Yoseph went to bury his father. All of Pharaoh's servants, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Mitsrayim" title="The Hebrew name for Egypt, meaning 'two straits' or 'two boundaries.' They only left their children, flocks, and herds in the land of Goshen. 10 When they reached the threshing floor of Atad, which is across the Yarden (Jordan), they wailed with a very loud and bitter lamentation. Yoseph observed a seven-day period of mourning for his father there. 13 His sons carried him into the land of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Kena'an" title="Means 'lowland' or 'merchant.' Avraham (Abraham) had bought this field from Ephron the Chitti (Hittite) as a burial site. 14 After burying his father, Yoseph returned to <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Mitsrayim" title="The Hebrew name for Egypt, meaning 'two straits' or 'two boundaries.' He might pay us back for all the evil we did to him." 17 They sent a message to Yoseph, saying: "Please forgive the crime and sin of yourself brothers, because they did yourself wrong. Now, please forgive the crime of the servants of yourself father's Yahuah (Yah)." Yoseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers came and threw themselves down before him. "Look, we are yourself servants," they said. 19 But Yoseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of Yahuah (Yah)? 20 You planned evil against me, but Yahuah (Yah) planned it for good to bring about what is happening today—to save many people's lives. 21 So don't be afraid; I will provide for you and your children." He comforted them and spoke kindly to them. 22 Yoseph stayed in <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Mitsrayim" title="The Hebrew name for Egypt, meaning 'two straits' or 'two boundaries.' He lived to be 110 years old. 23 Yoseph lived to see the third generation of Ephraim’s (Ephraim) children. The children of Machir (Machir), Manasseh’s (Manasseh) son, were also born on Yoseph’s knees.
