¹ Avraham (Abraham) took another wife, and her name was Qeturah (Keturah). ² She bore him Zimran, Yoqshan (Jokshan), Medan, Midyan (Midian), Yishbaq (Ishbak), and Shuach (Shuah). ³ Yoqshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were the Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim. ⁴ The sons of Midyan (Midian) were Ephah, Epher, Chanoch (Hanoch), Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Qeturah. ⁵ Avraham (Abraham) gave everything he had to Yitschaq (Isaac). ⁶ But to the sons of the concubines that Avraham had, he gave gifts. While he was still living, he sent them eastward, away from his son Yitschaq, to the land of the east. ⁷ Avraham lived for a total of 175 years. ⁸ Then Avraham breathed his last and died at a good old age. He was an old man who had lived a full life, and he was gathered to his people. ⁹ His sons Yitschaq and Yishma'el (Ishmael) buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron (the son of Tsochar (Zohar) the Chitti (Hittite)) which is opposite Mamre. ¹⁰ This was the field that Avraham purchased from the children of Chet (Heth); Avraham was buried there with his wife Sarah. ¹¹ After Avraham's death, Yahuah (Yah) blessed his son Yitschaq, and Yitschaq lived near Be'er Lachai Ro'iy (Beer-lahai-roi). ¹² Now this is the account of the descendants of Yishma'el (Ishmael), Avraham’s son, whom Hagar the Mitsriyth (Egyptian) (Sarah’s servant) bore to Avraham. ¹³ These are the names of the sons of Yishma'el, listed by their names according to their generations: Nevayoth (Nebajoth) (the firstborn of Yishma'el), Qedar (Kedar), Adbeel, and Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, and Massa, ¹⁵ Chadad (Hadad), Tema, Yetur (Jetur), Naphish, and Qedemah (Kedemah). ¹⁶ These are the sons of Yishma'el, and these are their names by their villages and their encampments; twelve princes according to their nations. ¹⁷ Yishma'el lived for 137 years. Then he breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people. ¹⁸ They lived from Chaviyalah (Havilah) to Shur, which is opposite <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Mitsrayim" title="The Hebrew name for Egypt, meaning 'two straits' or 'two boundaries.' He settled in opposition to all his brothers. ¹⁹ This is the account of the family of Yitschaq, Avraham’s son: Avraham fathered Yitschaq. ²⁰ Yitschaq was forty years old when he married Rivqah (Rebekah), the daughter of Bethuel the Aramiy (Aramean) of Paddan Aram and the sister of Laban the Aramiy. ²¹ Yitschaq pleaded with Yahuah (Yah) for his wife because she was barren. Yahuah answered his prayer, and his wife Rivqah conceived. ²² But the children struggled against each other inside her, and she said, "If it's like this, why am I this way?" So she went to inquire of Yahuah (Yah). ²³ Yahuah (Yah) said to her: "Two nations are in yourself womb, and two types of people will be separated from within yourself. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger." ²⁴ When the time came for her to give birth, look, there were twins in her womb. ²⁵ The first came out red and was like a hairy garment all over, so they named him Esav (Esau). ²⁶ After that, his brother came out with his hand holding Esav’s (Esau's) heel, so he was named Yaakov (Jacob). Yitschaq was sixty years old when she bore them. ²⁷ As the boys grew, Esav became a skillful hunter, a man of the open field, but Yaakov was a quiet man, living in tents. ²⁸ Yitschaq loved Esav because he enjoyed eating the wild game Esav caught, but Rivqah loved Yaakov. ²⁹ Once, Yaakov was cooking stew when Esav came in from the field, and he was exhausted. ³⁰ Esav said to Yaakov, "Please feed me some of that red stew, for I'm exhausted." (This is why his name was called Edom.) ³¹ Yaakov said, "Sell me yourself birthright today." ³² Esav replied, "Look, I'm about to die; what good is this birthright to me?"
