¹ Avraham (Abraham) was old and very advanced in age, and Yahuah (Yah) had blessed Avraham in everything. ² Avraham said to his servant, the oldest member of his household who managed everything he owned, "Please put yourself hand under my thigh. ³ I want yourself to swear by Yahuah (Yah), the Yahuah (Yah) of heaven and the Yahuah (Yah) of the earth, that yourself won't take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Kena'aniym (Canaanites) among whom I live. ⁴ Instead, yourself must go to my own country and to my relatives to find a wife for my son Yitschaq (Isaac)." ⁵ The servant asked him, "What if the woman isn't willing to follow me back to this land? Must I take yourself son back to the land yourself came from?" ⁶ Avraham said to him, "Make sure that yourself don't take my son back there. ⁷ Yahuah (Yah), the Yahuah (Yah) of the heavens—who took me from my father’s house and the land of my birth, who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, 'I'll give this land to yourself offspring'—he'll send his malak (messenger) ahead of yourself so yourself can take a wife for my son from there. ⁸ If the woman isn't willing to follow yourself, then yourself will be free from this oath of mine. Only, yourself must not take my son back there." ⁹ So the servant put his hand under the thigh of his master Avraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter. ¹⁰ Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and left, taking all kinds of good things from his master with him. He set out and went to Aram-Naharaim (Aram-naharaim) to the city of Nachor (Nahor). ¹¹ He had the camels kneel down outside the city by the water well. It was evening, the time when women go out to draw water. ¹² He prayed, "Yahuah (Yah), Yahuah (Yah) of my master Avraham, please give me success today and show kindness to my master Avraham. ¹³ Look, I'm standing here by the spring, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. ¹⁴ Let it be that the young woman to whom I say, 'Please let down yourself jar so I may drink,' and who answers, 'Drink, and I'll water yourself camels too'—let her be the one yourself has appointed for yourself servant Yitschaq. That's how I'll know yourself has shown kindness to my master." ¹⁵ Before he'd finished speaking, Rivqah (Rebekah) came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel (Bethuel), son of Milkah (Milkah), who was the wife of Nachor, Avraham’s brother. ¹⁶ The girl was very beautiful to look at, a virgin who'd never been with a man. She went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came back up. ¹⁷ The servant ran to meet her and said, "Please give me a little drink of water from yourself jar." ¹⁸ "Drink, my master," she said. She quickly lowered her jar to her hand and gave him a drink. ¹⁹ After she'd finished giving him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for yourself camels too, until they've finished drinking." ²⁰ She quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. ²¹ The man watched her in silence, wondering if Yahuah (Yah) had made his journey successful or not. ²² When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold ring weighing half a shekel and two gold bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels. ²³ He asked, "Whose daughter are yourself? Please tell me, is there room in yourself father's house for us to stay the night?" ²⁴ She answered him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son whom Milkah bore to Nachor." ²⁵ She added, "We have plenty of both straw and feed, and a place for you to stay." ²⁶ Then the man bowed his head and worshipped Yahuah (Yah). ²⁷ He said, "Blessed be Yahuah (Yah), the Yahuah (Yah) of my master Avraham, who hasn't held back his mercy and truth from my master. As for me, Yahuah led me on the way to the house of my master's relatives." ²⁸ The girl ran and told her mother's household about these things. ²⁹ Rivqah had a brother named Laban (Laban), and he ran out to the man at the well. ³⁰ When he saw the ring and the bracelets on his sister's wrists and heard Rivqah say, "This is what the man said to me," he went out to the man. He found him still standing by the camels at the well. ³¹ Laban said, "Come in, yourself who are blessed by Yahuah (Yah)! Why are yourself standing outside? I've prepared the house and a place for the camels." ³² So the man came into the house. Laban unloaded the camels and provided straw and feed for them, as well as water to wash the man's feet and the feet of the men with him. ³³ Food was set before him to eat, but he said, "I won't eat until I've told you why I've come." Laban said, "Speak on." ³⁴ He said, "I am Avraham's servant. ³⁵ Yahuah (Yah) has blessed my master greatly, and he's become very wealthy. He's given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys. ³⁶ Sarah (Sarah), my master's wife, bore a son to my master in her old age, and he's given him everything he owns. ³⁷ My master made me swear an oath, saying, 'Yourself must not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Kena'aniym in whose land I live.' ³⁸ 'Instead, yourself will go to my father's house and to my relatives to find a wife for my son.' ³⁹ I asked my master, 'What if the woman won't follow me?' ⁴⁰ He told me, 'Yahuah (Yah), before whom I walk, will send his malak with yourself and make yourself journey successful. Yourself will take a wife for my son from my relatives and from my father's house.' ⁴¹ 'Then yourself will be free from my oath when yourself come to my relatives; if they won't give her to yourself, yourself will be free from my oath.' ⁴² When I came to the well today, I said, 'Yahuah (Yah), Yahuah (Yah) of my master Avraham, if yourself will, please make the journey I've taken successful.' ⁴³ Look, I'm standing by the water well. Let it be that when a young woman comes out to draw water and I say to her, 'Please give me a little water to drink,' ⁴⁴ and she says to me, 'Yourself drink, and I'll also draw water for yourself camels'—let her be the woman Yahuah (Yah) has chosen for my master's son. ⁴⁵ Before I'd finished speaking in my heart, look, Rivqah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the well and drew water, and I said to her, 'Please let me have a drink.' ⁴⁶ She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said, 'Drink, and I'll water yourself camels too.' So I drank, and she watered the camels as well. ⁴⁷ I asked her, 'Whose daughter are yourself?' She said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, Nachor's son, whom Milkah bore to him.' Then I put the ring on her face and the bracelets on her wrists. ⁴⁸ I bowed my head and worshipped Yahuah (Yah). I blessed Yahuah (Yah), the Yahuah (Yah) of my master Avraham, who had led me on the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son. ⁴⁹ Now, if you're going to deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me, so that I may know which way to turn." ⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered, "This thing comes from Yahuah (Yah); we can't say anything to yourself, whether bad or good. ⁵¹ Look, Rivqah is right here in front of yourself; take her and go, and let her be the wife of yourself master's son, just as Yahuah (Yah) has spoken." ⁵² When Avraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped Yahuah (Yah), bowing himself to the ground. ⁵³ Then the servant brought out jewelry of silver and gold and clothing, and gave them to Rivqah. He also gave precious gifts to her brother and her mother. ⁵⁴ He and the men who were with him ate and drank and stayed the night. When they got up the next morning, he said, "Send me on my way to my master." ⁵⁵ But her brother and her mother said, "Let the girl stay with us a few more days, at least ten; after that, she can go." ⁵⁶ He said to them, "Don't delay me, since Yahuah (Yah) has made my journey successful. Send me away so I can go to my master." ⁵⁷ They said, "We'll call the girl and ask her what she wants to do." ⁵⁸ They called Rivqah and asked her, "Will yourself go with this man?" She answered, "I'll go." ⁵⁹ So they sent away their sister Rivqah and her nurse, along with Avraham's servant and his men. ⁶⁰ They blessed Rivqah and said to her, "Yourself are our sister; may yourself become the mother of thousands of millions, and may yourself offspring possess the gate of those who hate them." ⁶¹ Then Rivqah and her young women got ready, rode on the camels, and followed the man. So the servant took Rivqah and went on his way. ⁶² Now Yitschaq had come from the way of Beer Lahai Roi (Beer-lahai-roi), because he lived in the south country. ⁶³ Yitschaq went out to meditate in the field in the evening. He looked up and saw that the camels were coming.
