¹ Yahuah (Yah) remembered Sarah as he had said, and Yahuah did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. ² Sarah became pregnant and bore Avraham (Abraham) a son in his old age, at the specific time that Yahuah (Yah) had promised him. ³ Avraham (Abraham) named his newborn son, whom Sarah bore to him, Yitschaq (Isaac). ⁴ Avraham (Abraham) circumcised his son Yitschaq (Isaac) when he was eight days old, just as Yahuah (Yah) had commanded him. ⁵ Avraham (Abraham) was a hundred years old when his son Yitschaq (Isaac) was born to him. ⁶ Sarah said, "Yahuah (Yah) has brought me laughter; everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." ⁷ She also said, "Who would've told Avraham (Abraham) that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I've given birth to a son for him in his old age." ⁸ The child grew and was weaned. Avraham (Abraham) prepared a great feast on the day Yitschaq (Isaac) was weaned. ⁹ Sarah noticed the son of Hagar the Mitsriy (Egyptian), whom Hagar had borne to Avraham (Abraham), mocking. ¹⁰ So she said to Avraham (Abraham), "Get rid of this slave woman and her son; for the son of this slave woman won't be an heir with my son, Yitschaq (Isaac)." ¹¹ This matter was very distressing to Avraham (Abraham) because of his son. ¹² Yahuah (Yah) said to Avraham (Abraham), "Don't let it be distressing in yourself sight because of the boy and because of yourself slave woman. Listen to everything Sarah says to yourself; for through Yitschaq (Isaac) yourself seed will be named to yourself." ¹³ "I'll also make a nation from the son of the slave woman, because he is yourself seed." ¹⁴ Avraham (Abraham) got up early in the morning, took bread and a bottle of water, and gave them to Hagar. He placed them on her shoulder along with the child and sent her away. She left and wandered in the wilderness of Be'er-Shaba (Beersheba). ¹⁵ When the water in the bottle was gone, she placed the child under one of the bushes. ¹⁶ She went and sat down opposite him about a bowshot away, for she said, "I can't watch the child die." As she sat opposite him, she lifted her voice and wept. ¹⁷ Yahuah (Yah) heard the boy's voice. The malak (messenger) of Yahuah (Yah) called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, "What's bothering yourself, Hagar? Don't be afraid; for Yahuah (Yah) has heard the boy's voice where he is." ¹⁸ "Get up, lift the boy, and hold him fast by yourself hand; for I'll make him a great nation." ¹⁹ Yahuah (Yah) opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went and filled the bottle with water and gave the boy a drink. ²⁰ Yahuah (Yah) was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness and became an archer. ²¹ He lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother got a wife for him from the land of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Mitsrayim" title="The Hebrew name for Egypt, meaning 'two straits' or 'two boundaries.' According to the kindness I've shown to yourself, yourself will do to me and to the land where yourself have lived." ²⁴ Avraham (Abraham) said, "I'll swear." ²⁵ Avraham (Abraham) complained to Abiymelek (Abimelech) about a water well that Abiymelek's (Abimelech's) servants had seized by force. ²⁶ Abiymelek (Abimelech) said, "I don't know who has done this. Yourself didn't tell me, and I hadn't heard of it until today." ²⁷ Avraham (Abraham) took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abiymelek (Abimelech), and they made a covenant. ²⁸ Avraham (Abraham) set seven ewe lambs from the flock apart by themselves. ²⁹ Abiymelek (Abimelech) asked Avraham (Abraham), "What's the meaning of these seven ewe lambs that yourself have set apart by themselves?" ³⁰ He replied, "Yourself will take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, so they may be a witness for me that I dug this well."
