Genesis (Bere'shiyth) 18
1 Yahuah (Yah) appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre (Mamre) while he was sitting at the entrance of his tent during the heat of the day. 2 He looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them and bowed down to the ground. 3 He said, "Adonai (Master), if I've found favor in yourself sight, please don't pass by yourself servant. 4 Please let a little water be brought so you can wash your feet and rest under the tree. 5 I'll get a piece of bread so you can refresh yourselves. After that, you can continue on your way, since you've come to your servant." They replied, "Do just as yourself have said." 6 Avraham (Abraham) hurried into the tent to Sarah (Sarah) and said, "Quickly, get three measures of fine flour, knead it, and bake some bread." 7 Then Avraham ran to the herd, took a tender, choice calf, and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. 8 He took curds, milk, and the calf he had prepared and set them before them. He stood by them under the tree while they ate. 9 They asked him, "Where is yourself wife Sarah?"
He replied, "In the tent." 10 One of them said, "I will certainly return to yourself when the season comes around, and yourself wife Sarah will have a son."
Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. 11 Now Avraham and Sarah were old and advanced in years; Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I've become old, will I have pleasure, especially since my master is old too?" 13 Yahuah (Yah) said to Avraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Can I really give birth to a child now that I'm old?' 14 Is anything too hard for Yahuah (Yah)? At the appointed time I'll return to yourself, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a son." 15 Sarah denied it, saying, "I didn't laugh," because she was afraid.
But he said, "No, yourself did laugh." 16 Then the men got up and looked out toward Sedom (Sodom), and Avraham walked with them to see them on their way. 17 Yahuah (Yah) said, "Should I hide what I'm doing from Avraham, 18 since Avraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him? 19 For I've chosen him so that he'll direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of Yahuah (Yah) by doing what's right and just. This is so Yahuah can bring about for Avraham what he has promised him." 20 Then Yahuah (Yah) said, "The outcry against Sedom and Amorah (Gomorrah) is truly great, and their sin is extremely serious. 21 I'll go down now to see if they've acted entirely according to the outcry that has reached me. If not, I'll know." 22 The men turned from there and went toward Sedom, but Avraham remained standing before Yahuah (Yah). 23 Avraham drew near and asked, "Will yourself really destroy the righteous along with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous people in the city. Will yourself really destroy it and not forgive the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people there? 25 Far be it from yourself to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked so that the righteous are treated the same as the wicked! Far be it from yourself! Won't the Judge of all the earth do what's right?" 26 Yahuah (Yah) replied, "If I find fifty righteous people in Sedom, I'll forgive the entire place for their sake." 27 Avraham answered, "Look, I've been bold enough to speak to Adonai, even though I'm only dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five are missing from the fifty righteous. Will yourself destroy the whole city for the lack of five?"
He said, "If I find forty-five there, I won't destroy it." 29 He spoke to him once more and said, "Suppose forty are found there."
He replied, "I won't do it for the sake of the forty."
