Genesis (Bere'shiyth) 17

1 When Abram (Abraham) was ninety-nine years old, Yahuah (Yah) appeared to him and said, "I'm El Shaddai (the Almighty El). Live yourself life before me and be wholehearted. 2 I'll make my covenant between me and yourself, and I'll increase yourself numbers greatly." 3 Abram fell on his face, and Yahuah (Yah) spoke with him, saying: 4 "As for me, look, my covenant's with yourself, and yourself'll be the father of many nations. 5 Yourself name won't be called Abram anymore. Instead, yourself name'll be Avraham (Abraham — father of a multitude), because I've made yourself the father of many nations. 6 I'll make yourself incredibly fruitful. I'll make nations from yourself, and kings'll come from yourself. 7 I'll establish my covenant between me and yourself, and yourself descendants after yourself throughout their generations, as an everlasting covenant. I'll be Yahuah (Yah) to yourself and to yourself descendants after yourself. 8 I'll give to yourself and yourself descendants the land where yourself're staying—all the land of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Kena'an" title="Means 'lowland' or 'merchant.' Son of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Cham" title="Means 'hot' or 'burnt.' The second son of Nuach (Noah). Father of Kush (Ethiopia/Africa), Mitsrayim (Egypt), Phut (Libya/North Africa), and Kena'an. Ancestor...">Cham, grandson of Nuach. Pronounced: Keh...">Kena'an (Canaan)—as a permanent possession, and I'll be their Yahuah (Yah)." 9 Yahuah (Yah) said to Avraham, "As for yourself, yourself must keep my covenant—yourself and yourself descendants after yourself throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant which you'll keep between me and you and yourself descendants after yourself: every male among you must be circumcised. 11 You'll be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it'll be a sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 Every male among you who's eight days old must be circumcised throughout your generations—including those born in yourself house or bought with money from any foreigner who isn't one of yourself descendants. 13 Those born in yourself house and those bought with yourself money must be circumcised. My covenant'll be marked in your flesh as an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male who isn't circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin—that person'll be cut off from his people; he's broken my covenant." 15 Yahuah (Yah) said to Avraham, "As for Sarai (Sarah) yourself woman, yourself shouldn't call her name Sarai; her name'll be Sarah (Noblewoman/Princess). 16 I'll bless her and also give yourself a son by her. Yes, I'll bless her, and she'll be a mother of nations; kings of many people'll come from her." 17 Then Avraham fell on his face and laughed. He said in his heart, "Will a child be born to a man who's a hundred years old? Will Sarah, who's ninety years old, give birth?" 18 Avraham said to Yahuah (Yah), "Oh, that Yishma'el (Ishmael) might live before yourself!" 19 Yahuah (Yah) said, "No, but Sarah yourself woman'll bear yourself a son, and yourself'll name him Yitschaq (Isaac — laughter). I'll establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20 As for Yishma'el, I've heard yourself. Look, I've blessed him and'll make him fruitful; I'll multiply him exceedingly. He'll father twelve princes, and I'll make him into a great nation. 21 But I'll establish my covenant with Yitschaq, whom Sarah'll bear to yourself at this set time next year." 22 When he finished talking with him, Yahuah (Yah) went up from Avraham. 23 Then Avraham took his son Yishma'el, everyone born in his house, and everyone bought with his money—every male among the men of Avraham's house. He circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very same day, just as Yahuah (Yah) had told him.
