¹ After these things, the word of Yahuah (Yah) came to Abram (Abraham) in a vision: "Don't be afraid, Abram. I am yourself shield and yourself very great reward." ² Abram said, "Yahuah (Yah), what will yourself give me, since I remain childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer (Eliezer) of Dammeseq (Damascus)?" ³ Abram continued, "Look, yourself has given me no children, so a servant born in my house is my heir." ⁴ Then the word of Yahuah (Yah) came to him: "This man won't be yourself heir. Instead, a son coming from yourself own body will be yourself heir." ⁵ He took him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven and count the stars, if yourself are able to count them." Then he said to him, "That's how yourself offspring will be." ⁶ Abram believed in Yahuah (Yah), and he credited it to him as righteousness. ⁷ He said to him, "I am Yahuah (Yah), who brought yourself out of Ur (Ur) of the Kasdiym (Chaldeans) to give yourself this land as an inheritance." ⁸ But Abram asked, "Yahuah (Yah), how can I be sure that I'll inherit it?" ⁹ He said to him, "Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." ¹⁰ Abram brought all these to him, cut them in half down the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; however, he didn't cut the birds in half. ¹¹ When birds of prey swooped down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. ¹² As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a terrifying darkness came over him. ¹³ Then Yahuah (Yah) said to Abram, "Know for certain that yourself offspring will be strangers in a land that isn't theirs. They'll be enslaved and oppressed there for four hundred years. ¹⁴ But I'll also judge the nation they serve, and afterward they'll leave with many possessions. ¹⁵ As for yourself, yourself will go to yourself fathers in peace and be buried at a ripe old age. ¹⁶ In the fourth generation yourself descendants will return here, for the sin of the Emoriy (Amorites) hasn't yet reached its full measure." ¹⁷ When the sun had set and it was dark, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch appeared and passed between the divided pieces. ¹⁸ On that day, Yahuah (Yah) made a covenant with Abram, saying, "I've given this land to yourself offspring, from the river of <span class="ytc-term" data-term="Mitsrayim" title="The Hebrew name for Egypt, meaning 'two straits' or 'two boundaries.'
