Genesis (Bere'shiyth) 14
1 At that time, Amraphel (Amraphel) king of Shin’ar (Shinar), Aryok (Arioch) king of Ellasar, Kedorla’omer (Chedorlaomer) king of Eylam (Elam), and Tid’al (Tidal) king of Goyim (Goyim) 2 went to war against Bera (Bera) king of Sedom (Sodom), Birsha (Birsha) king of Amorah (Gomorrah), Shinab (Shinab) king of Admah (Admah), Shemeber (Shemeber) king of Tseboyim (Zeboiim), and the king of Bela (Bela) (which is Tso’ar (Zoar)). 3 All these kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (Siddim) (which is now the Yam ha-Melach (Salt Sea)). 4 They had served Kedorla’omer for twelve years, but they rebelled in the thirteenth year. 5 In the fourteenth year, Kedorla’omer and the kings allied with him came and defeated the Repha’iym (Rephaim) in Ashteroth-Qarnayim (Ashteroth-Karnaim), the Zuziym (Zuzim) in Ham (Ham), and the Eymiym (Emim) in Shaveh-Qiryatayim (Shaveh-Kiriathaim). 6 They also defeated the Choriy (Horites) in their hill country of Se’iyr (Seir), as far as El-Paran (El-paran) near the wilderness. 7 Then they turned back and came to En-Mishpat (En-mishpat) (which is Qadesh (Kadesh)) and conquered the entire territory of the Amaleqiy (Amalekites), as well as the Emoriy (Amorites) who lived in Chatsatson-Tamar (Hazezon-tamar). 8 Then the king of Sedom, the king of Amorah, the king of Admah, the king of Tseboyim, and the king of Bela (which is Tso’ar) marched out and prepared for battle in the Valley of Siddim. 9 They fought against Kedorla’omer king of Eylam, Tid’al king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shin’ar, and Aryok king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 The Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits. As the kings of Sedom and Amorah fled, some fell into them, while the rest escaped to the mountains. 11 The victors seized all the goods and food of Sedom and Amorah and went on their way. 12 They also carried off Abram’s (Abraham's) nephew Lot (Lot), who lived in Sedom, along with his possessions, and departed. 13 A survivor came and reported this to Abram the Ibriy (Hebrew). Abram was living near the oaks of Mamre (Mamre) the Emoriy, the brother of Eshkol (Eshcol) and Aner (Aner), who were Abram’s allies. 14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his own household and pursued the invaders as far as Dan (Dan). 15 During the night, he and his servants divided their forces against them. He defeated them and pursued them as far as Chobah (Hobah), which is north of Dammeseq (Damascus). 16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, along with the women and the other people. 17 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorla’omer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sedom went out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (Shaveh) (which is the King’s Valley). 18 Then Malkiy-Tsedeq (Melchizedek), king of Shalem (Salem) and priest of El Elyon (Yahuah (Yah) Most High), brought out bread and wine. 19 He blessed Abram, saying: "May Abram be blessed by El Elyon, Creator of heaven and earth.
